Working from home means you have to be on the ball in terms of your own motivation and organisation.
Now motivation, I have plenty of, but organisation, perhaps a little less so! I find myself full of ideas; each one 'giving birth' to yet more ideas. This leaves me feeling overwhelmed and ultimately I end up procrastinating and doing nothing. So, spurred on by Alison Tinlin of Plans and Presents, and Claire Gould of The Wedding Calligrapher, I have written a short poem about procrastination.
Surprisingly, when it comes to actually writing poems, my procrastination levels drops to all time low!

Now, without further ado.....

Procrastination - The Thief Of Time

I'll let you into a little secret of mine;
I'm not the most efficient at managing time.
I have so many jobs that I say cannot wait
And yet I continue to procrastinate.

Sometimes I get started, as I think on my feet
But my outstanding list is nowhere near complete.
Tension then mounts, feel like I want to cry;
Nothing gets sorted and time whizzes by.

I do understand how organised I need to be
But first, I must make a brand new cup of tea.
Then you sit yourself down, to start on your job
And at once you're distracted by a pretty wedding blog.

So you eventually get some ideas down on paper,
You get half way through; decide to finish it later.
There's no rhyme or reason, and no justification to wait
So I'll simply lay the blame at the door of Little Miss Procrastinate.

Once implemented, I feel my ideas could be sweet
But first, I find I have to make time to tweet.
That starts the ball rolling, and then, as you do
I chat to my friends, on a forum or two.

Now that's all well and good, as they provide inspiration
But I need some action, to cure my procrastination.
Without which, any idea will certainly fail
So next I sit and tackle a mountain of emails.

Emails completed, time for another brew
Whilst I sit and contemplate the next thing I should do.
Thoughts are developing whilst the coffee pot bubbles;
I soon better get cracking or I sense I'll be in trouble.

Faster and faster, the thoughts whizz through my mind
Whilst Mr Procrastination steals all of my time.
You should never leave till tomorrow, what you can do today
Because it sadly never comes, or at least that's what they say.

Then suddenly it's bedtime; it quickly comes around
And the list of things you had to do still isn't going down.
Has anyone possibly got some extra time I could borrow?
I don't need to know right now, you can let me know tomorrow!

So when it comes to business, I consider myself a learner
Yet I have so many great ideas sitting waiting on the back burner.
I've now written all my notes and decided what to do
But I think I'll probably think about it, for another day or two!
