Ode To The Election 2010

I wish I'd had a camera as I walked into the polling station
To capture the voters faces and the nervous anticipation.
The booths stood unassumingly, waiting to take our marks
As we set about choosing a government to lead our country out of the dark.

Would the forecasts have been accurate? Would there be any shocks?
No-one knew for certain what would end up in the ballot box.
Was Britain after an overhaul? Had Labours' lament been sung?
The early indications showed that our parliament would be hung.

As most of the country slept soundly, the votes were labouriously counted
And at last the political candidates, could see how their campaigns had mounted.
Record numbers cast their votes and hoped everything would turn out sweetly
Whilst a limited number had problems and missed out on voting completely.

This has been an exciting election, by every definition
And I hope that Britain will blossom and prosper under an honourable coalition.
Now is the time for the action, to put the Great back into our land
So at the end of the election 2010, let's hope our country is in safe hands.
