I wasn't going to write a poem, but I thought  that I oughta
As you share your birthday with my own precious daughter.
You are somewhat older as she's only 8
But still it's an occasion that you should celebrate.

You've already had fun, so you're onto a winner
After fish and chips and pies for your birthday dinner.
Today will be even better, with surprises in store
And I hope that you get all you wish for and more.

50's the new 40, so life has just begun;
You're not fifty years old, you are fifty years young!
With Ruth on your arm, and a ring on her finger
Your fantastic youthful aura will definitely linger.

So enjoy your lovely day, whatever you may do
